Support for images posted in comments, and inline Youtube links ala Facebook where it shows a thumbnail, and clicking on it expands the embedded video to view without leaving the site. I think it would be very very slick!

Another one: Being able to disallow certain uses to flag posts in case they go completely bonkers and flood your email, be it to bug you or for whatever reason.

I would suggest the following improvements:

- Option to enable video on some threads without video on all
- Option to paginate some threads without paginate on all
- Support for images (or at least basic emoticons)
- Text formatting within the comment interface
- More highlighting options for moderators comments (more than just the little sheriff star!)
- MUCH FASTER LOADS on threads with 50+ comments

I'd like to see OpenID adopted more uniformly - specifically it would be great to be able to login using my openid credentials from the Add New Comment box, just the same as in the systems supported by ID.

I would like to see an option to select what pages can be closed to comments, at the moment you need to wait for a comment on the page before you can close it off, so the flow should be more controllable from the outset of the install, saves people wasting time on comments that will be closed

Another idea: Aside from the regular and threaded structuring of the comments, I'd suggest a third one as a variation of the regular, where only the admin's replies are shown differently. The admin's reply can either be shown threaded or as an edit within the comment being replied to as seen here.

It'd be a great alternative for blogs where heavy commenting activity makes threaded commenting a bit of a mess. This way, commenters will still have their astute comments "rewarded" by a reply, and it won't derail ongoing discussion. Of course, I'm not one to say whether a one-time reply by the admin is the maximum, or whether continual correspondence should be enabled, allowing for the discussion to keep going. Maybe the two variations can be broken into to seperate options along with the to existing ones.

To recap:
Only the admin can reply to a comment. This reply can be shown in two ways:
• Threaded
• Inline edit

A "reply tree depth" (like the thread depth) can be set, allowing between anything one or infinite replies:
• Allowing only one reply means that the admin can reply without a response from the commenter
• Allowing inifinite replies enables an ongoing discussion between the two

I suggest implementing the inline option the the same way as my reference link does: By special formatting such as different font colours.

One thing that I believe isn't available yet is the ability to color the comment box. As a graphic designer, and not a javascript writer, I would like to see more control over the application through css. I'm using Disqus in custom applications, instead of through other blogging resources, this control would make it even easier to integrate with my designs.

We're very happy with the service we've gotten so far from Disqus but there are a few things about ID's interface that we really like. I believe we'd see more use of up/down voting on comments if the icons were thumbs up/down rather than arrows. I also really like how ID exposes the comment's and the user's score without having to mouse over it.

The basic Disqus buttons and UI could use some refinement. This is where ID has Disqus beat, in my opinion. Their forms layout and button design are top-notch.

I would remove the Options button and expose those controls (with a more refined UI) to the user by default - but provide toggles for each option within the admin area.

Some built-in options for comment display and layout (themes, perhaps) would be a nice option.

Hi Giannii!

Thanks for opening this thread up. I think all my suggestions are just bells and whistles.

I would like to see some sort of basic text formatting/linking bar. I also saw ... somewhere ... that would post someone's last "tweet" in small text next to their name. It would also be nice to pick the default icon for people who don't upload photos to their profile. The emotionless grey icon is ... emotionless and grey :).

Even though I didn't have a good experience with Intense Debate, one of the things I really liked about their design is that it was very tight and info packed on the individual commenter. I like the idea that even though registering with Disqus is a snap...that the user gets SO much more in return. I don't know how to describe this and I don't want to make it seem a negative because I love Disqus and think you all are doing a great job but the design interface seems to be more spread out than what I experienced on ID. On ID it was all *right there* in your face and I liked that immediate "oooohhhhoooo" feeling of social networking.

that probably makes no sense. But again, overall I believe that Disqus is a much better system. I guess I am just asking for more social networking and formatting glitter :).
