The problem was actually with my theme not differentiating between the selection of no comments. Just found earlier thread on this that explained the solution (link below). Search for support threads coming? :)

You can find this option by toggling Manage Threads on your moderate
page: http://disqus.com/admin/moderate

Any chance of the options section on the actual post can do an admin check and let me select to close the thread there instead of a 4 click solution to get to the new thread on the disqus site (or my wordpress backend)?

The moderate page really needs search. I'm sorting through over 900 pages of threads to find the one that needs closing. There has to be a better way, no?
