The Disqus Blog: Posting and Pulling Comments From FriendFeed

  • JoshuaKahn · 10 months ago
    Hey Giannii,

I believe that Daniel is talking already with @swhitley but chatcatcher would be a killer addition as well. Grabs any Twitter reference to your blog post and posts it in comments (also works with FF, but it looks like you've got that covered). Similar to Tweetbacks, but it works with any URL shortening service.
  • Phil Glockner · 10 months ago
One request I would like to make is a link back to the FriendFeed entry in the FF portion of the Disqus comments area. Right now in order to find the corresponding entry in FriendFeed, it requires clicking on a name in the comments, and then poking around a bit.
  • Anton Kovalyov · 10 months ago
That makes sense. Thanks for highlighting the idea. —Anton

I would like to see Disqus pull through Tumblr in addition to straight RSS.
  • RJBailey2008 · 10 months ago
My Tumblr has Disqus commenting with the FF link enabled and is directly added to my FriendFeed. Will I have to add my Tumblr's RSS to FF to get the full benefit? And did you understand what I just said? ^_^
  • Chris Nixon · 10 months ago
Yeah. I hope that this feature can be picked up through the Tumblr feed in FF, and not just an RSS feed.
  • Jauder Ho · 10 months ago
Similarly, I would like to see Disqus pull through Tumblr in addition to straight RSS.
  • Anton Kovalyov · 10 months ago
We will support other feeds in the near future but for now we can get only friendfeed/rss entries.
  • RJBailey2008 · 10 months ago
    Well, that's okay, then.
  • boztek · 10 months ago
    *Please* add tumblr feed support.

I would use RSS for my tumblr site in FriendFeed but then you lose image and video integration with FriendFeed from what I can tell.
  • Anton Kovalyov · 10 months ago
Tumblr support will be added very soon.

Brilliant. Added Facebook Connect and FriendFeed integration onto my blog without any additional software.

    I heart Disqus.
  • Chris Charabaruk · 10 months ago
Nice! Glad to see this feature added. Will tweetbacks be next?
  • Chris Charabaruk · 10 months ago
So, is it possible for me to have this set up so that comments made on my site get pushed to FriendFeed, but not the other way around?
  • MG Siegler · 10 months ago
excellent work guys. how does it work for multi-author blogs?
  • Anton Kovalyov · 10 months ago
The person who added the blog to the Disqus has to enable Friendfeed. If other moderators want to participate in Friendfeed discussions, they will have to enable Friendfeed by adding nickname/remote key into their profiles (Account/Services page).
  • BlueCockatoo · 10 months ago
Hi Guys! I'm excited to see this feature, but it doesn't seem to be pulling in comments that were made on FriendFeed on my posts that have been there a while. Is it only going to work for posts that are commented on after you enable the service?
  • MG Siegler · 10 months ago
Great thanks Anton. We'll test it out.
  • Corvida · 10 months ago
Does this also pull/pushes the comments made on your friendfeed stream to your blog?
  • Anton Kovalyov · 10 months ago
Eventually, it will pull all the comments you have on Friendfeed, even for old entries. You just need to wait a little bit while our bots are pulling all the comments.

One of the problems I ran into was the concept that multiple "entries" in FriendFeed could point back to a single Disqus thread. For instance, I came to this page from this link: http://friendfeed.com/e/406bbf03-b754-1cf4-31a8... and this entry had a couple of comments, none of which is showing up below in FF section. More oddly, there is a comment below from @laibcoms that doesn't exist on the entry a linked to.

One question I have: are these new, special FF comments going to be available for reading and writing via the API?
  • Anton Kovalyov · 10 months ago
    Hi Carter,

As for today, we fetch only rss/blog entries from friendfeed (http://friendfeed.com/?service=blog). In future, we will support more friendfeed entry types.

Regarding your other question, friendfeed comments are accessible via friendfeed api (http://friendfeed.com/api/).
  • crabasa · 10 months ago
Ok, but I'm not sure you answered my question.

See the two comments below (from laibcoms and rahsheen)? They are comments on the following FF entry (http://friendfeed.com/e/4dc2f737-4dca-e237-c647...) which in turn points back to Daniel Ha's blog post (http://obscurelyfamous.com/post/73400413/postin...). So, why are those comments showing up rather than there?
  • Anton Kovalyov · 10 months ago
Got it. Yes, that is the issue, I am on it.
  • Anton Kovalyov · 10 months ago
And because the feature seems to be pretty popular, there are some delays in syncing comments between the two services. It is going to be much faster afterwards.

Also, let me clarify that we don't sync disqus comments with friendfeed we do the opposite. So we don't compete in any way with ff2disqus. On the contrary, tools complement each other.
  • crabasa · 10 months ago
I hope I didn't imply that I resented the improvements that you guys are making to Disqus. I love Disqus, and the sooner I can retire FF2Disqus, the better (support sucks). I just want to make sure that I understand how things work so that I can see where the gaps are between what I want as a user and what is out there being provided.

Also, FF2Disqus no longer pulls Disqus comments into FF. It's a long story. :)

hey just wanna know that, if we comment on a blog where "Disqus" is enabled, then the link which would be entered within the comment or would become follow or no follow.

Is there any link juice for the external links there ?

Just enabled Friendfeed - I am using my RSS feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/kevintunis in Friendfeed but it keeps reverting it to http://kevintunis.com. Would this make a difference on Friendfeed connection? I do not have a post to FriendFeed. What I do have is:

    1. Just enter my data. There was a question 'which service to use for this blog?'. From the list I chose my blog URL and hope this is OK.

Maybe you add or clarify this point: 'note: You will have to activate FriendFeed per site'.

    2. I also enabled some other services in Disqus Admin (Twitter, Flickr, Delicious, Facebook). I am a little afraid now that new content loops will occur. Are you only importing into Disqus or are you also pushing those services again to FriendFeed?
