The Disqus Blog: OpenID Support, Please

  • Daniel Ha · 1 year ago
    Hey guys,

    Couple weeks. :)
  • Luke Hoersten · 1 year ago
Thanks man =) This is exciting. Please make sure we can bind our current accounts with an openid.
  • rands · 1 year ago
    Has this landed?
  • Daniel Ha · 1 year ago
Yup, Disqus supports OpenID through Clickpass.com
  • Rob Loach · 1 year ago
I think what they mean is put the ClickPass form right on the anonymous user comment posting form so that users can post using OpenID right when they're posting the comment.
  • Babluit · 1 year ago
    I want that too.
  • Luke Hoersten · 1 year ago
I'd also love to be able to login to Disqus w/ my openid. I think would bring a lot more users as well which is what we all want =).
  • cavorite · 1 year ago
    +1
  • Carlo Zottmann · 1 year ago
    Yes, please.
  • Alvin Ashcraft · 1 year ago
OpenID support would be awesome. Glad you're working on it.
  • Daniel Ha · 1 year ago
    It's be supported through Clickpass.com
  • Oleg Shalnev · 1 year ago
Does it really problematic to implement OpenID.
It will be nice to login directly without tricks.
  • Zuffox · 1 year ago
As long as you log in from the Disqus front page, not the embedded Disqus on the particular blog.
  • Earle Martin · 1 year ago
Yes. It's absolutely essential to have the OpenID login field present on the blog itself, otherwise people (myself included) will not realize that it is available.

At present I have to enter my name and email address here to comment, which should be handled by my OpenID provider.
  • Mike Chelen · 1 year ago
It's great that OpenID is accepted on the main page, why can't it be an option for everyone making a comment as well?
  • Daniel Ha · 1 year ago
    We already support OpenID.
  • Sketchee · 1 year ago
If openid worked with disqus as easily as it does with the Wordpress OpenID plugin in, that would make the implementation killer.
  • Earle Martin · 1 year ago
It's not working properly at present. I just logged in via it and was asked to link it to my existing account; fair enough. But after I did that I was sent to http://disqus.com/login/None , which is a 404 error.
  • Daniel Ha · 1 year ago
I'll take a look asap. Which OpenID provider did you use?
  • Earle Martin · 1 year ago
    I'm with MyOpenID. Thanks!
  • Earle Martin · 1 year ago
(Why didn't this reply appear in the right place? Trying again, please ignore.)
  • Chris Thompson · 1 year ago
I signed up for Disqus today to comment on a blog. My very first thought was "Why doesn't this have OpenID?" This a critical fail.
  • Daniel Ha · 1 year ago
OpenID support is currently only on the main login page.

We are working on better OpenID implementation.
  • FJ!! · 1 year ago
Adding my voice to this feature request here. Would love to show my future commenters that little menu where they can enter their AIM or LJ name directly underneath the comment box. No more new passwords ever!
  • Mike Chelen · 1 year ago
This would be hugely useful and make the comment process even easier, which is good for both commenters and site owners.
  • corourke · 1 year ago
Count me in on requesting this as well. The whole point of having Disqus on my site to manage comments is so my visitors can do everything from my site. Please give us the clickpass/facebook/lj/etc menu.
If it's that hard to implement and isn't a priority let us know so those of us who want it can figure out an alternative.
  • Anthony Bailey · 10 months ago
Another +1. I can't think of a more obvious service to be an OpenID relying party. Minimizing the work needed for a commenter to post non-anonymously seems like a win for everyone, including yourselves: once someone with no previous interest in Disqus comments using their OpenID a couple of times, they accidentally and frictionlessly create something of value on Disqus - their aggregated comments - that they may build on in the future.
  • snekse · 8 months ago
Any new info on this? When someone goes to leave a comment on my blog, I would expect to see an OpenID login button.
  • joshmchugh · 1 year ago
Definitely in favor as well. IntenseDebate is getting a lot of love in the last couple of days from the OpenID establishment because Change.gov uses their comment system and it allows openid logins.
  • nov · 10 months ago
Why can't we use OpenID at the Disqus comment form on our own blog?
There are supporting only Disqus and Facebook Connect :(
  • Lachlan Hardy · 9 months ago
I get a fail on the main login page.

http://disqus.com/openid/ tells me the OpenID was invalid and that's it. My OpenID (http://lachstock.com.au) works perfectly fine elsewhere.
  • Ian · 8 months ago
I want OpenID available on my blog as well. Blogger has it. OpenID should be available. I don't want to look like forcing people to register on DISQUS to comment (which right now, the blog options for commenting look like they have to). If it's not available soon, I will find another solution for comments. I do not want Anonymous comments allowed, but it seems that the only two options are Registered and Unclaimed. Even here. Where is the OpenID support for comments?
  • Rob Loach · 8 months ago
Posting comments via OpenID is still not supported directly from the comment form.
  • Giannii · 8 months ago
Correct, it's on our list of todos.

I swear I saw an in-blog commenting log-in feature for OpenID implemented somewhere today. That's why I just switched from Intense Debate to Disqus on my Wordpress blog. But now I don't see an option for it. What gives? Facebook connect but no inline OpenID?

I... swear I saw it. But I can't find it again. That's really weird.
  • Giannii · 7 months ago
OpenID is not inline yet but we are developing it.

What's the ETA? I'm pleased with Disqus so far, but inline OpenID would be excellent.
  • Giannii · 7 months ago
No hard ETA but within 2009. It's just a question of implementing it right
    ya know =)

In my case, it will be incredible that my users can add comments with Windows Live ID as now its possible with Facebook Connect. Are you planning add support for Windows Live ID?
  • Giannii · 7 months ago
Ya know, we've not talked about windows live id but I will pass it onto the
    team.

Come on, guys. It's been a year. Yes, you technically support OpenID--if users click through to disqus.com. But you still don't support it from the embedded comment form. What's the issue? IntenseDebate supports it, so I know it's technically feasible; it seems like about time that Disqus should as well.
  • Benjamin · 4 months ago
And the next day, you rolled it out! Thank you!
  • Person · 4 months ago
Still busted -- clicking on 'Get Started' on disqus.com and entering a myopenid id at the bottom fails for me.
  • Johan Rylander · 3 months ago
Jupp. myopenid does not work for me either. Also, I would like to link my already existing account to my openid account (as others has noted also).
