settings">settings.
I saw the notifications option. But I'd like the ability for anonymous commenters or commenters that don't have a disqus account to receive notificaton when a new comment is posted. It's a very common feature in blog comments and it encourages discussion because it keeps pulling commenters back to the discussion.
Also your comment above appears to be clipped at "..in your ." but the full comment came through in the email I received about it. i.e. "..in your settings."
I agree with you. We're working on that as well. Anonymous commenters will have option to receive notifications. Also, thanks for pointing out the clipping issue.
Would like to throw in another +1 for this feature. It's something that I assume must have been on the backburner for a long time, and I don't want it to get lost in the shuffle.
To reiterate the feature is this:
Any user, DISQUS account or not, should be presented with a checkbox (that is checked by default) that says "Notify me of comments via email."
If checked, that person (whether they have a DISQUS account or not) should receive email notifications if anybody posts any comment on that particular page.
This email should have a link to unsubscribe to the comments.
User should be able to reply directly to the email to create a new comment on the blog (using whatever credentials had been entered for the first comment - either name/email/site if anonymous, or full disqus site if they have registered)
Just wanted to clarify since I think other people in this thread have not been precise.
The request was:
"I'd like the ability for anonymous commenters or commenters that don't have a disqus account to receive notificaton when a new comment is posted."
Disqus does:
Email you IF you've already got a disqus account
8 months have passed, any news on the feature request?
Please allow option to either (default) have notifications for ANY comments on a post they already commented on or, if chosen, to receive a notice only if someone is replying right to their own comment.
This should be enabled simply with a check box under the disqus comment box: "Notify me of followup comments via e-mail"
The upside for Disqus is that you can easily include links in those notification emails that will enable people to not only see the comments that have been made, but reply to the comments, and then also REGISTER a disqus account. This has GOT to be a good way to convert many of the "drive by" users you get that never again come back to disqus, even though we (blog authors) spend a lot of time implementing and tweaking your code for you.
I am replying directly to your comment here, since I realize you likely don't receive notification of these comments unless people reply directly to your own comment.
So, please see below, my comments to Marc and this whole thread:
http://disqus.disqus.com/notify_me_of_followup_...
Please implement. S.O.O.N.
Bye.
Thanks
Thank you for the informations.

Notice that Disqus includes a link to a comment feed, such as http://disqus.disqus.com/notify_me_of_followup_...
Combine that URL with a site like Feedblitz and you have a public subscribe-by-email link: http://www.feedblitz.com/f/f.fbz?Track=http://d...
It's not clear how difficult that link would be to generate from a blog platform, it seems likely that it could be done with the Disqus API but I don't know if there is an easier way.
Feedburner also offers a similar feature, but it would be a pain to manually enter each comment feed.

No - we are wanting the PEOPLE who LEAVE A COMMENT to have the option to get EMAIL everytime somebody else posts a comment on that same blog.

I am preparing to cancel Disqus from my blog because you lack the very basic email option for notification of comments left by people who are not registered with Disqus.
Most Wordpress blogs have this feature and I don't see why you do not. Is this a strategic reason? (To make people join Disqus)
If it is a strategic reason, that is fine, but let me know so I can go back to using WordPress comment system that allows follow up emails for unregistered users.
Great system otherwise (though you do let through a lot of spam lately)
Tom
The ONLY reason I'm not using Disqus is becasue of the lack of this basic and needed feature.
