The Disqus Blog: New features are on the horizon

  • Andrew S. · 11 months ago
I would suggest changing the icons for rating comments. I've found that very few people on my blog will rate comments. Maybe they don't know they should?
  • Giannii · 11 months ago
I totally agree with you. What kind of rating icons would you like to see?

  • Andrew S. · 11 months ago
Just something that stands out a little more. Perhaps some beta testing allowing different options could find something. People could report back on whether rating occurs more or less often with different icons (like thumbs)

Re: commenting interface, I'd like to see full admin functions in Disqus itself, like the ability to ban someone from Disqus, not just the site.
  • Giannii · 11 months ago
So essentially flagging of Disqus/anonymous users? Also when you say Full Admin functions, which would you like to see besides flagging of users?

Improvements? I'd like to see the DISQUS COMMENTS button removed. I think it's enough to have "blog comments powered by DISQUS" displayed at the bottom.

How can someone switch all of their archived comments from one domain name to another? All the same filenames and content, just on a different domain.
  • C.T. Jones Imitator · 11 months ago
    Easy!

Also, why mess wiyh something that works?

I must be hallucinating that some elitist deleted my earlier post...
  • Chris Crosby · 11 months ago
Easy? How, then? I tried changing the domain name under "Settings" and it didn't work. New comments appeared on the new domain, but old comments didn't display.

Will you remember and go over the suggestions posted in the Suggestions forum?

I'm not really much for reiterating by finding the old threads I made with suggestions and critique. :)
  • Giannii · 11 months ago
Don't worry, I have been taking notes there. =)

And I'd like a better Notification service with Notifixious for exampe ;-)
  • Giannii · 11 months ago
What kind of notifications would you prefer and which services? gtalk, aim, msn, or sms?

I would love all of the them actually ;-) And even more. Do you know http://notifixio.us? It's actually pretty easy : if you've got an RSS feed for the users' comment, then, you've got a subscription system that supports all the one you mentionned and that has a cool API for anyon to build additional channels that can be used (iPhone App, Air Application... etc)

Looking forward to the improved spam filtering. I have been getting my fair share, and my fingers are now well trained on writing the word "Delete" and hitting send.

I second that. I wouldn't want to see people switch over on Wordpress. Your commenting system is just way too good. But all webmasters dream about is more and more traffic.

    Hi,

Great to see Facebook Connect so quickly released, but what about the reporting that was mentioned here? Would love to get some analytics about trending topics (via rate of comments), overall trend of comment activity across sites, etc. Any ideas when this might be coming?

Though online powerhouse Amazon.com pulled in extra cash this year, overall retail sales on electronics, women's clothing and jewelry plummeted more than 20 percent from last holiday season. Looks like people are still willing to pay for convenience in a shrinking economy. Not only does Amazon.com save consumers from having to drive to the store and fight the crowds, it sells everything! So it makes sense that it’s doing so well. You can find gifts for everyone from your infant nephew to your great-grandma at that site. Amazon seems to be the only retailer that saw gains this year, though. Overall internet spending fell 1 percent in the United States. Regular retail sales on luxury items, such as jewelry, fell a whopping 35 percent. If that’s not a sign of the times, I don’t know what is. Read this article to learn more about how retailers fared this holiday season and to check out your options if you’re in need of <a title="READ Retail Sales Fall as Amazon.com Pulls in Extra Cash" rev="vote-for" href="http://personalmoneystore.com/moneyblog/2008/12/26/retail-sales-fall-as-amazoncom-pulls-in-extra-cash/">extra cash.

I have some ideas on the comment systems. Here is one of it. I suggest that the comment system right now could probably be displayed in a way like the e-mail system. We get to see trackbacks or replies or probably delete the comment if we felt it's redundant, all at a click.

Have the new features been officially launched? As I joined Disqus for not quite long and so I can't really tell if there are any differences. However, I am still anticipating for more on the commenting system. As far as what I saw, the commenting system looks the same, as in the outlook. Probably we could have some changes to it?

It's difficult to follow up with the current comment system. The current commenting system is like once you commented and that's it. Follow up with replies are time-consuming as we are not sure if there is any replies to your comment and we have to click through every single comments one by one to check.
