The Disqus Blog: Moderators, this one is for you!

  • Space Cowboy · 9 months ago
This is a really great update, with moderating features that I've definitely been waiting for.

    Thanks, folks. :)
  • Saša Ebach · 9 months ago
That is fantastic! I was just going to ask: You can't be serious about not allowing moderators to edit the comments. You beat me to the punch :) It even works in the admin interface. Very nice! Thanks.

Hey guys! I just finished installing and tweaking disqus on my blog and am really digging it. I wrote a post to my users explaining how it works and why it is better. than standard commenting. For anyone who is on the fence about using disqus or want to see it in action, check it out - http://www.ikigaiway.com/2009/killer-new-commen...

    Keep up the great work!

Nice to finally see it implemented.

This reminds me that Disqus needs a spoiler tag for discussion of fiction, be it movies, TV, literature, videogames, etc. (Along with other tags, of course, but this one is more urgent than others).
  • Giannii · 9 months ago
A spoiler tag eh.. What would you suggest?

Either a collapsible box or a black cover highlight the reader has to mark as seen here.
  • Dan · 8 months ago
Yes, a spoiler tag would be invaluable for my blog. Too often the "preview box" on the front page contains spoilers in people's comments for film/TV shows. It would be great if they could make their spoilers invisible, or something with a <spoiler>blah blah blah </spoiler> tag, or whatnot.

This is great...but how come editing/deleting comments from my DISQUS admin backend does not reflect the same changes in the Wordpress comments?

What happened to Disqus ? I keep receiving the error in Moderate page. It didn't count comment in my Tumblr, and my Photo post in Tumblr didn't show any image ( ex: http://phobictheme.tumblr.com/post/72506328/thi... ).
Please fix it as soon as possible.

    Yo,
What this is, suppression of free speech ,IF THE STATEMENT IS OFF COLOR or not just right OK,Let who say, what they mean,The fact that you say it is edited is good,But is that honest? The content is between, say you and I,yet my understanding may be to share with your other members that come to visit as well,is this slope getting slippy?Just concerned, what if every site did this to you, where does the passion get sprayed upon?
great tool but explore the big edit button.Saying we will edit for keeping within certain standards, then like it or lump it vote button.take a survey.Be as up front as possible with disclaimer etc, your the designers.

This is a nice compromise EXCEPT, my fundamental problem with Disqus remains – any deleted/edited comment (including deleted spam) is not replicated into the underlying blog’s SQL database. So if/when the blogger moves to another commenting platform, the edited comment will no longer be edited because Disqus does NOT post comment edits to the underlying blog database.

This really needs to be addressed. In the case of comment editing, at the very least, Disqus should post the edited post to the blog's underlying database.

Of course, deleted posts should also be deleted from the underlying database, which they still are not - especially deleted spam.
