The Disqus Blog: Integrating Disqus on Joomla!

  • JoomlaWorks · 1 year ago
The Disqus plugin for Joomla! 1.5.x is ready. You can see a demo here:

    http://joomla15.joomlaworks.gr/

A URL to the official Joomla! extensions site will be shortly provided as well.

I have NOT solved the ?disqus_reply query issue however caused on Joomla! 1.0.x (not 1.5.x) when SEF URLs are on. So my previous post still remains...

Awesome! We'll blog this soon. Thanks a lot.
  • HzR · 1 year ago
I"ve been trying to implement it myself for a couple of weeks. As a newbie I didn't manage to get it to work. The plug-in works great, very easy to set-up. Thanks a lot!

    hello,
I am getting errors while installing disqus plugin on my joomla 1.5.2 site .
  • Daniel Ha · 1 year ago
Great to see a custom Joomla integration is being worked on. I'll take
    a look at this asap.

Could you elaborate why that message is shown if SEF is enabled?
  • JoomlaWorks · 1 year ago
This error message is generated by Joomla! when a page is not found. Like I said, the resulting URL after I submit a comment is something like this:

    demo.joomlaworks.gr/content/view/34/50/?disqus_reply=717544#comment-717544

The Joomla URL is demo.joomlaworks.gr/content/view/34/50/ and the query string added by Disqus confuses Joomla.

By the way, I searched the available documentation and API and did not find anything about this disqus_reply parameter, which could allow me to control it somehow.

I'm sure though it'd be easy to control it, perhaps "mute" it so it won't affect SEF URLs on Joomla.

If we can get around this issue, we will have the plugins ready for Joomla 1.0.x and 1.5.x in a day :)

    Thanks Daniel
  • Daniel Ha · 1 year ago
At the moment, the query string is required for the reply/approve
status of the thread. We'll see if we can work on a workaround for
    you. Thanks for the plugin!

Hi guys awesome plug-in! I'm having a little trouble however. I posted in the joomlaworks forum. Any help you can provide would be awesome. Thanks!

    Which one is your question?

I'll answer this one: "How to remove comments from some articles in my
blog. In particular I need to remove it from the static article on my
    home page."

You can lock threads from your Disqus Dashboard: http://disqus.com/dashboard
  • docfr3sh · 1 year ago
Sorry, I guess I should have just posted the question here. My issue is when a new comment is added to my blog.

    my site is http://www.sunshineofficial.com/revamp

when a comment is added and submitted, I receive a 404 page that looks like this

    http://www.sunshineofficial.com/revamp/revamp/d...

As you can see, the "revamp" is added twice. I'm not sure if this is because I'm using SEF or if it's because my site is in a subdirectory
  • Daniel Ha · 1 year ago
    Hi there,

I believe it is because you are using SEF. This is a known issue.
  • docfr3sh · 1 year ago
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi
  • JoomlaWorks · 1 year ago
v1.1 has been released which addresses this nasty IE7 issue.

Just watched a presentation on Joomla! at the Drupal New York meetup yesterday, put on by Ircmaxell (http://ircmaxell.com). Very neat stuff.

The DISQUS plugin for Joomla! has been published on the official Joomla! Extensions website at:

    http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,c...

DISQUS for Joomla! seems to be attracting Joomla users' attention and we're glad we could help spread DISQUS on the J! community. ;)

    @Daniel Ha
We received some feedback from users who have installed third party SEF extensions on their Joomla! website (creating URLs like domain.com/category/article/) and facing redirect issues when a new post is added (see my original post here about the query string added after a post is submitted). I hope you guys can offer some workaround on this soon.

One more comment we've received is "when will DISQUS be available to other languages or at least when can it be translatable in some way (referring to the elements of the submission form on the end user's site)".

Joomla users are catching up ;)
  • Daniel Ha · 1 year ago
    Very cool. Congrats!

We haven't had a chance to approach foreign support yet, but we do plan on addressing it soon.

    Kool !

I support this project. Please make it better and better for Joomla! .

    Thanks.

Since there's no simple migration path from Joomla 1.0.X to 1.5, many Joomla users are sticking with 1.0.15 for the foreseeable future.

So, any news on a Disqus plugin for Joomla 1.0.15..?
  • classejovemdoiasp · 1 year ago
Any preview of a translation to Brazilian Portuguese?
  • HzR · 1 year ago
I've been using the plugin for about 2 months now, and I'm very happy with it.
I'd love to see a feature where the posts I have in certain categories in Joomla! show up in a category with the same name in Disqus. Is this feasible?
    Thanks!
  • vappleyard · 1 year ago
Has someone figured out the 404 issue when using SEF?
  • Ben Borges · 1 year ago
@joomlaworks - when using the plugin from a mobile device, i find it not working with my native W610i device browser or with opera mini 4 for java phones, it looks like the commenting system is on a kind of frame and it only show the button to add a comment, a link to disqus.com but that's all : no way to add a comment from a mobile device to a website using joomla with Disqus commenting system.

Any chance to get this fixed in the next update ?

about SEF : i'm using it on latest joomla 1.5.7 with Sh404SEF component and it seem to work great on any browser :))

    One question

The user account is updated on joomla db when a comment is posted by new user?
  • deege · 12 months ago
I am still seeing this problem on a Joomla 1.0.x site. Is there a fix for this? If there is no intention to fix this issue, I'll have no choice but to swtich to another comment system.
  • ryanjuckett · 11 months ago
I worked through a lot of the issues where viewing articles from different URLs or viewing articles with multiple pages caused multiple comment threads to be generated per article. See http://www.ryanjuckett.com/programming/web/17-d... for instructions on how to update the plugin to be more stable in this regard.

I'm a big fan of Joomlaworks and I think this plugin has real potential. For me to use this, I would want to be able to enable only my blog section/category for comments. Right now, the plugin invades all the content on my site which, for my services side, isn't appropriate. Anyway, keep up the good work and I'll check back in later.

    Giannii,

Best way to get me is by email. I don't think us Joomlaphiles need a lot of features and functionality. My review of several forums and blog posts tells me that the only major change you need to make is to allow users to select which Sections and Categories the plug-in displays in. Then guys like me with more corporate sites don't have comments showing up on our "non blog" pages.

If you can get that working, I (and my clients) will switch over from IntenseDebate to Disqus.

Cheers and I appreciate your inquiry.

Just testing out a new blogging plugin for Joomla! which integrates Disqus for comments, outbrain.com ratings and Tweetmeme.

I've managed to overcome the double URL problem in Joomla! as you can see here (nothing too difficult to achieve, though I had to edit the "counter" snippet):
    http://dev.joomlaworks.gr/plugins/the-news/46-t...
    http://dev.joomlaworks.gr/plugins/test-link.html

As you can see, comments are identical on both.

This new plugin will offer the option for Joomla! admins to be limited to certain "menu items" or certain content categories (something a few asked in here).

So there you have it! One more implementation for Joomla! + Disqus.

Daniel et al, you guys are doing a great job! 2 comments: the forum here needs a search option :) and it would be great if you guys offered a way to "move" comments from one post to the other.

    Keep it up!

  • JoomlaWorks · 8 months ago
    what do you mean?
  • Lawrence Meckan · 7 months ago
I've built a new edition for 1.0.15, not based on Fotis' codebase and will be taking it in a different direction (1.5 and beyond). Also figured out the SEF issues.

We have just released v2.0 of our plugin for integrating Disqus on Joomla! 1.5.

    More here: http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/contact...

    v2 features include:
    - Plugin re-written from scratch for better performance
    - New options for comments counter/anchor link for listing and article pages
    - Choose to integrate Disqus comments in specific categories and/or menu items
    - Fully MVC skinnable. Just copy the /plugins/content/jw_disqus/tmpl folder inside your Joomla! template's /html folder, rename /html/tmpl to /html/jw_disqus and start tweaking the HTML & CSS!
    - Added CSS to override default Disqus CSS remotely.
    - Added scrolling effects for anchor links
    - Added option for testing Disqus comments plugin locally before going live.

Enjoy one more fine release from JoomlaWorks!

Just installed JoomlaWorks Disqus for Joomla 1.5...

Comments are fine, but the 'number' of comments by the bubble remains at zero - any ideas?
