My problem is the opposite. I've installed Disqus on Blogger but it is automatically nofollow. I don't know how to make it dofollow.

I think a lot of people do not understand what is really happening and I would like to share some of my thoughts.

Firstly, Disqus is a really powerful platform because from a Web 2.0's point of view, it really helps drive a lot of traffic as it is relatively easy to get people to share their experiences with it's auto comment approval. Of course the moderator get to delete the content or mark the individual commenter as spammer if the person is posting rubbish.

Next from a SEO point of view, it is even more powerful as it is really SEO friendly and allow you to post your anchor text as a link pointing to your website. I don't know whether Daniel knows the true extent of the power. Of course, with people getting more and more savvy, those with dofollow links will definitely attract more posting of comments.

A posting with no comments will be hard to have a high Page Rank. When there is no one posting, it lacks the viral effect as there's no track back. Google also sees it as a page with little importance and with no PR, it is hard for people to find that particular content on Google.

On the other hand, when more people post on the comments, though with dofollow, you pass off some Page Rank to the posters. Which is not a bad thing because the comments also helped your page achieve the high PR status in the first place. This is a win-win proposition.

I have done extensive research on blogs running on Disqus and realize that those that utilizes Disqus end up with pretty decent PR and based on the Alexa Ranking, they are getting decent traffic, just from the Disqus community. This is not a bad thing....but a very good thing. Daniel Ha and company are saviours to the community by not even charging a single dime on this marvelous platform.

That is the main reason why those who own blogs need to be educated. Do you want to preserve your page rank, end up with maybe only PR3, PR4 blog with not many comments or would you like to have lot's of comments, lot's of traffic and a high PR blog. It's your call. There's always a trade off but sometimes, you need to look at the positive side of things.

All that I've said are coupled with 7-8 years experience in SEO and I've seen how things evolve. So don't believe those people who just grumble about preserving PR and all those B.S. You need to hang out more if the Google folks to know what's really happening.

To sum things up, don't go into webmasters on Disqus and give them the wrong advice. They need to do the right thing. Disqus is on the verge of something spectacular. Don't make the wrong decisions or give the wrong advice as it will ruin the community and the platform.

Keep it up guys. I'm hoping to see you guys as the No.1 commenting platform. :-)

P.S. - If I know who's PSDealer who posted the rubbish on Digital Forum, I would be the first to shoot him.

dofollow doesnt mean crap- except to google. You will see the spam bots coming soon.

Wonderful! Thanks for taking care of that. I use gmail, the formatting there doesn't look too bad but it has sometimes in the past, maybe not an issue anymore?

The post isn't as concerning as the fact that there is no way to specify
nofollow links. A minor code change would default that and then you can add
an option in a later release if people want dofollow to allow them to turn
it on. You may have some reasoning behind the dofollow policy but I don't
see any benefits that would outweigh the increased spam with this getting
out. DigitalPoint Forums isn't a small community, you're going to see this
more unless it's addressed.
