The Disqus Blog: Howto: Mark Spam

  • dobes_vandermeer · 11 months ago
Hi, when I get the email notifications I'm a bit confused about where to put "remove" or "approve" - I've been putting it on the first line of the reply, by itself. Would it work in the subject? What if there are other things in the message, like a signature? I wouldn't want to accidentally approve something - I'd prefer to have a link to click on, like:

click here to delete the message: http://magic/link/that/deletes/the/message
click here to approve the message: http://magic/link/that/deletes/the/message

Afterwards it would confirm the comment was deleted. With the email response system I have replied delete but I don't know if it worked or if I've just added a dumb comment like "delete" to my blog somewhere...
  • dobes_vandermeer · 11 months ago
And the other question is, what if I start my sentence with 'delete'; if someone asked "how do I fix problem X" and the answer is "delete this file: ..." would that delete their message?
  • Daniel Ha · 11 months ago
    No, that would not.

The command is just the word and nothing else.

I look at the headings before I open spam mail..Also to warn people...Don't join CBS mailings list its very difficult to cancel this service...They never took me off their list ...Today I spam to death ...which they never check their own emails... Fair warnings ... I'm looking into a place handles theses kinds of companies who will handle this spam wars...

is it possible the change in spam filters has resulted in a bug that doesn't let me un-spam a comment? both Not Spam button and replying Approve don't seems to work for me (no result for mail, pressing button pops a dialog in Firefox telling about internal server error, but in Safari it has just "OK")

Hi Daniel, this isn't about Spam--
    Here's a comment from x-trends
Done. However, as you post on xTrends a lot, be prepared to get your points hammered. Some nerd with a lot of angst and too much time on their hands has written a web bot to point down virtually anyone who posts on xTrends. I wouldn't worry about the point system if I were you.
    http://elitetechfinancial.com/blog/?p=401#comme...
So Danial, Can folks really write this kind of a bot against your system?

Is it possible to un-spam a comment? I have feedbacks that comments from my readers aren't showing up. could this be due to spam catcher?

Hey guys, but what about banning altogether someone? I have got a spammer posting the same spam ad on the same article multiple times a day very day. I have got his IP and email, but even though I have included them in the moderation system all this does is to allow me to moderate it and mark it as spam. If I ten bots doing this at me daily I would probably be losing lots of time. Any suggestions or ideas?

It's great that Disqus now has an anti-spam protection but is it possible to mark a comment as not spam after I've already marked it as spam?

    I'm afraid I accidentally marked something spam that wasn't - and I can't figure out how to unspam it, either. I don't want to cause this person problems with his comments. Can someone help me un-spaminate him? :}

I *just* figured it out - I went into my "deleted" comments in Disqus and searched for the comment I had accidentally marked spam. There was an option to "restore" it. I hope this helps!

Hi, I am new to disqus must say ability to moderate by emailis kool, will look to impliment it.

I recently posted a comment on a blog of a website, and as I check my backlinks I see that for some reason new comments are appearing on other blogs / articles of this site, at a frighteningly fast rate, sometimes 20 to 30 a day, strangely these comments do not show in my disqus account. Is this normal? I am worried I could be banned for spamming. honestly I do not know how these comments are appearing...

I presumed this is the easiest way to remove spams. However, I reckoned for improvements as this is not enough. Improvements such as the ability to clear all spams at once, to identify the spammer and not accepting any comment from that users etc.

I am not very sure how this spam works. Just to enquire, will normal comments come in with this spam functions? And what if I choose not receive e-mails for updated comments and wish to filter comments through Disqus account, can I do so?

This post helps alot. I feel for you RobinGood, I get the same stuff ove and over too and just keep deleting it. If I mark something as spam, I do seem to be able to unspam it. Although the stuff that I would mark is clearly spam. Mostly I just delete...some are actually people taking the time which amazes me.
