I asked how to "permanently" delete threads, as in make them go away, as if they were never there. Not just in a "deleted" list. I want to wipe them out forever. When I try to change the title, excerpt, url, etcetera, it doesn't work, either. Disqus continues to use the old test data I was using the first time I tried clicking on the link from my domain.

Since nobody has responded, does that mean there is no way to permanently delete comments and threads (not just move them to a "deleted" area in admin)? And is there no way to reset the following variables after Disqus has already retrieved them from the referring URL: disqus_title, disqus_url, and disqus_message?

Just wipe out everything from both crystalsilver and insidertravels. Now that I have a better idea of how the system auto-detects the variables for each thread, I should be able to get it right this time.

And if I wish to explicitly declare those variables, where do I put them in my markup?

I've cleaned out the threads from your sites for you. The variables need to be declared before the embed JavaScript. A good place to put the variables is in the HEAD section of your HTML.

The Disqus system is ignoring my custom variables (as specified using the javascript). It continues to create a url based on whatever it chooses rather than what I tell it to use. And it is also using ugly character entities (example: 160) instead of converting them before creating the thread URL.

I'm probably going to need you to delete my threads again before this is over.

Also, is there any way (via CSS perhaps?) to get rid of all of the logo buttons (disqus, facebook, twitter)? None of them fit into my design, and they look really tacky (not because they are tacky, but because in the context of my design they just don't fit). I have no problem using plain text links for attribution, but the buttons really need to go. And do I have to use CSS to get rid of the avatar icons as well?

Hey, sorry to bother you another time. Could you clean out the threads again? I did a test with some lorem ipsum text, but the admin interface hangs up with the twirly wheel and never displays the comments, so I am unable to delete them. I promise I won't do any more testing with dummy data after this.

BTW, how can we delete permanently comments? I don't want to have all these "deleted" comments without an option to delete them for good...

Yes! That's exactly what I've been asking about. When I try to delete comments or threads, they are still there, clogging up the administration process. When I delete them, I want them gone forever. There should be a button or other option to "Empty the Trash", so to speak. But I can't seem to find an answer, and the Disqus staff isn't responding.

I e-mailed help@disqus.com and they said permanently deleting comments isn't an option right now, but they can remove the comments for you by special request.

Let's hope this option appears in a future version so users can have complete moderation of comments. But I find a little bit annoying to email Disqus staff and bother with a silly special request like this... especially with all the work they have right now...
