The Disqus Blog: gReader: Comment on blogs with Disqus from within Google Reader

  • FamManLib · 1 year ago
Very nice -- just what I've been complaining about for a while...the inability to readily comment on something from *within* my favorite RSS reader.

I am loving Disqus because the development team constantly come up with new features every now and then. Thanks.

Good example of how well-done integration motivates people to use the products that work well with the other tools they already use. :)

This is indeed very nicely done. I have one question: I look at the API and it was not clear to me how given a blog post URL, an application could get the list of posts. The API talks about forum id, message id, etc.. Is there an endpoint in the API which given a post URL (example: http://www.loiclemeur.com/france/2008/04/plus-d... ) would return me a JSON representation of the list of comments posted for that entry? (or alternatively, the URL of the iframe we could embed)
    Thank you!

I actually don't use the API to display actual comments...I use the default Javascript code provided by Disqus and tweak the variables to get what I want. The disqus_url is the variable of the exact blog post page that is tied to comments. The tough part is checking each page for the Disqus comment system and grabbing the forum_id. This is the part I have hard-coded for now for a few select major blogs.

If only it could import the blogs existing comments as well, it would be an in-blog comment killer!
  • pinksy · 1 year ago
That's the only thing holding me back from integrating Disqus...

I just updated the extension to pull in any comments from any site using Disqus. This should make it a lot easier to join the conversation.

    Hi Daniel,

Try NetNewsWire on your Mac to read RSS news. I have tried all kinds, from Google Reader to Vienna. However NetNewsWire (which has been free for a while) is the best.

    Cheers,
    Alpay

    Guys,

Just wanted to top by and thank you for a great job you have done. I trying to get all my blogs integrated with Disqus and will be encouraging my readers to do the same. Or at least the one's that are bloggers.

I wish though there was a way to integrate Disqus on every post of a blog, without hiding the existent comments. Right now I only let Disqus manage the comments on all the future posts or the posts that had zero comments.

Thanks again! Glad to see the all the new features popping up!

I've been around the blogosphere alot and I'm coming across disqus alot. Thought I'd give it a try... and anything to do with GooglReader is definitely worth it!
  • Palluxo · 1 year ago
    Why don't you try Feedburner?
    It's also owned by Google.

I'm using feedburner on my comments feed from Disqus because I have a feedflare I put together that let's me join the conversation on my iphone. I'll share my feedflares on the gReader site once I do a little testing on them.
