The Disqus Blog: Facebook connect callback url

  • Andrew B. · 9 months ago
Yes, you should use disqus.com as the callback. This will be changing soon, but we'll automatically take care of it for you.

Thanks Andrew. My question was more around, isn't disqus violating the terms of Facebook, since the callback url is to disqus and not the site on which the disqus iframe is on ?
  • Home Office Envy · 9 months ago
It appears your policy has changed within the last hour. I noticed only after I had discovered that facebook would no longer allow me to use disqus.com as the callback.

According to your recently edited help doc: http://wiki.disqus.net/FacebookConnectHelp it appears you're now allowing us to use our base domain as the callback now? Seems Facebook doesn't give us a choice in the matter anyway.

Also, when I try to click on FB Connect (in Disqus comments), the popup just opens up my main site instead of the facebook permission page.

    Please confirm.

    Thanks!

Yes, you should use your own site as the callback URL now. Do you still have problems when it's set up like that?

Bizarre actually: a bit of background - I originally installed the facebook commenting widget which was released about month ago. Part of the process was to upload a "cross receiver" file to my site root. Though this did not appear to be a problem yesterday, it now is coming up as an issue. I've since deleted the CR file (disqus installation never required it from what I could tell)

I am having the same problem as Home office envy. Clicking on the Facebook Connect just opens my main page. I had to uncheck Facebook in Disqus.

Thanks Giannii, but I have done all that is listed in that guide. I will probably just uninstall Disqus and possibly try to reinstall the plugin to see if the setup starts behaving as described.

When I click on facebook connect in the admin settings page I see nothing. Then I click save and again I see nothing except that the facebook connect is unchecked. No clue but basically I have never seen any options to input my api key or anything. By the way can I use my URL as the callback now or do I have to use disqus?

    Thanks

You use your site url now, did it not automatically update?

it did not update because i literally got disqus for my site yesterday. But i figured out what was wrong with the facebook connect api key not showing up when i clicked it. I was using firefox 3.0 and chrome both of which it did not work on. Then i went home and used safari and boom there it was the facebook connect api key! finally, i got it working. Thanks for the help. Please check on this because firefox is my favorite browser and uber popular. I feel weird that i am the only one this has happened to.

I have one FB app for using FB Connect to my site. Do I need to create a new FB app to use disqus for comments on the same site/domain?
  • Giannii · 9 months ago
You would only need that one app for the site/domain you are using fbconnect
    on.

Thanks. I do still have trouble getting it to work though. Take a look at www.s-consulting.no if you'd like.
