The Disqus Blog: External spam fighting services

I hear that Disqus uses Akismet... any comments from the Disqus people? Yes or no? How tightly linked?
  • Daniel Ha · 1 year ago
Yes, Disqus does use Akismet. What do you mean by tightly linked?
  • Andrew Watson · 1 year ago
Tightly linked would mean that Disqus uses Akismet, and probably always will. Loosely linked would mean that a blog admin could use, for example, Mollom for spamfighting while not having to give up the features of Disqus.
  • Daniel Ha · 1 year ago
Neither. Disqus handles spam control, so blog admins do not have to
worry about selecting which spam tool to use. We hook into Akismet
now, but it does not mean we will not move beyond it.

So if I understand correctly we (blog owners) don't have control over what is spam and what is ham? We can't use our own tools?
  • Andrew Watson · 1 year ago
David, that is what I was checking, and you do understand correctly. I don't know how many requests the Disqus folk have had to provide the sort of control you refer to - I get the impression not many, but would be interested.
  • Daniel Ha · 1 year ago
Yes you do. You can moderate it on your moderate page.
  • davidakachaos · 1 year ago
Okay, just we can't run things like SpamKarma on them...
I can live with that ;-)

Hmm.. SpamKarma. Will look into it! Thanks for the tip.
