I like Disqus a lot so far. My commenters do really like emoticons though.

Please, that they don't look ugly (like the ones we see on Nabble, for example... -_-'). I think deviantART have the best ones. They're pure pixelart and have excellent size for 12px to 16px font sizes. I think you can even use some of them, cause some are copyright free and even found around the web. :3

I also think an option to enable/disable them via configurations page would be great. And, if enabled, in my opinion the best solution is to make a simple link right the "options" button or the little avatar pic (bellow the commenting box), cause there's a good space there with nothing. Then, when click the link, a new small window opens with a list of the emoticons in a column and their respective markup (:thumbsup: :dance: :omg: ...). I think it's better, cause it keeps the Disqus block clean on every templete, just as he is - better than to use buttons... -_-

I think the emoticons are an important part of the soul of the comments. ^__^

The problem with DA is that it has too many smilies; it eschews expression by words, so ideally, Disqus should only have emoticons for a handful or so of smilies.

Yeah, I agree to having emoticons as an option -- especially since the Disqus plugin seems to de-activate all other comment-related plugins in Wordpress...!? So there goes my TinyMCE formatting, there go my emoticons... :(

I've been using Disqus on my blog for some time now and the only thing that I miss is that. :-(
Other than that, Disqus is top notch! "see? this was a good place to use a thumb up emoticon ;-)"
