Will Disqus import comments made on Facebook pages?
  • Joseph Vizcarra · 4 months ago
    Yes, this would be awesome!
this will take back the commenter community in blogs that facebook have sucked in for itself..
  • harry159 · 3 weeks ago
    good post!
  • smk436 · 2 months ago
    That would be great.

Not seeing the 'Real-time updating es enabled.' message on my blog after activating it all. Also, with the new theme and real-time comments, how do my users leave a video comment with Seesmic? The link to do that seems to have disappeared. Is it a question of either real-time comments or video or can we have both?
  • svartling · 4 months ago
Yeah I don't see the real-time thing on my blog either...
  • JC John Sese Cuneta (謝施洗) · 4 months ago
Ah yes, good question, the Seesmic feature seems to be not available anymore...

I am moving my blog from one server to another (10.on.lton.lt), is it possible to retain comments — transfer them too?
  • blog commenting · 4 months ago
Excellent article dude. Thanks for sharing the whole thing with us.Keep up the good work.

A few comments from a user who had been considering installing Disqus on one of his blogs, until recently - and I think you'll find that I speak for many who stay quiet because they don't want to be bothered with the usual flamewars that arise when fanboys hear what they don't want to hear ...

    1. I notice that the link to my homepage has vanished from my Disqus profile. Is this a change in Disqus policy, or just a temporary malfunction? If we're looking at the former, and Disqus isn't going to be providing commenters with the chance to get that homepage link, then I would consider this to be a deal breaker.

As a commenter, I am not going to agree to link to a service that isn't willing to link back to me, nor am I going to spend my time writing comments for a blog configured to force me to use such a service. As a blogger, I'm not going to ask my visitors to make use of such a service, themselves. I appreciate the time and trouble that goes into crafting a well thought out response, some of which (on some blogs) have almost become posts in their own right, and see the link I give back to somebody who has positively contributed to the content on my blog as being the very least that I should even think of offering in return.

    2. I notice that the buttons have failed to work in some places in our account managers, including, in an almost amusing way, the button on the form for contacting support. Trying to report a problem, and finding oneself stopped by yet another problem, is not an experience that is going to build much confidence in the service.

So far, so bad. I think the staff is slowly destroying what was once an excellent service offering intriguing possibilities, under what I take to be the theory that any attempt to combat spam is, by definition, good, whether it works or not, and whether or not the collateral damage it causes could have been reasonably avoided. I think we've all seen spammers continue to post urls where homepage links have been absent; this isn't going to slow them down one bit. But the honest site owner who wants to build up a web presence by doing exactly what he's supposed to be doing - by posting content that others want to see - stands to get really hurt by this nonsense, and I see little evidence that Disqus cares about that problem at all.
  • Shain · 4 months ago
I've just discovered Disqus and I think it's a very cool product. I'd like to use it on my website, but I need to translate it in french. How can I do ? I can help you to translate the comment system If needed. Please let me know !
  • writersblock · 4 months ago
I tried to use the "Contact Support" for this, but, after clicking on the button, the comment just sits there, and does not seem to get to you, so here it is:

It would be great if you would put the list of small avatars back in the "Subscriptions" area. And, as before, these should be clickable to all that person's posts. The "Subscriptions" feature is not useful, as is, because I can't see all the people to whom I'm "subscribed," and having to scroll back and back and back, in time, when someone might have been posting for many months, as well as having to scroll back through everyone's posts, altogether, is way too time-consuming. So, the capability to just search for one person's posts, via avatar, in case we've forgotten their name, as we could before, would be great.

Also, the "Learn more" link, under "My Settings" is still dead; it would be great if you would return the "Cancel" button to each post, and if you would return the "Reply" button to its original location. More than once, I've almost "Flagged" someone.

Auto-update is not practical on sites that have a lot of commenters who post a lot.

A "Submit Bug" button might be nice for us, and useful, and time-saving for you, since it seems as if we're the lab rats. :-)

    Thank you.
  • fuzzyjay · 3 months ago
I would like a cancel button on my blog comments as well...
  • VeloCast · 4 months ago
    Hi Daniel,

Great work on the new Disqus system. I'm using the Wordpress plugin and, echoing what a few folks have said, I don't see the real-time updating section on my site (I have switched to use the Narcissus theme).

Is this something that is yet to come to the WP plugin?

Also, as someone else mentioned, the Seesmic integration seems to have gone too. It wasn't something I used but I liked the idea and thought that I may have used it at some point. Any chance of having it back?

    Cheers,

    Scott.

Thanks a lot DISQUS team for bring so many awesome changes. But Blogger Comment import/sync is still not available.
By the way, I have updated the comparison analysis with the latest changes. Have a look, if I missed anything - http://www.knowliz.com/2009/06/disqus-intensede...

Thanks and kudos for the changes..
    Cheers
  • Daniel Ha · 4 months ago
We put that on hold. It'll be available soon.
  • JC John Sese Cuneta (謝施洗) · 4 months ago
    O_O That's good news.

I hope you'll do something for b2evolution as well ;) I really need the comment sync since I recently changed base URLs. My re-import request a few weeks ago didn't work I think...
  • deuts · 4 months ago
Oh! I was too excited I thought my feature request (which I blogged here: http://deuts.blogspot.com/2009/06/what-i-would-...) was here, which is allowing multiple profiles within a single disqus account so that when I leave comments in other blogs I can choose which profile (i.e., username, email for gravatar purposes, and url) should I use.

    Anyway, I can wait.

Would really like the old profiles back. WHERE is my "friends" list? Also, following comments of "subscriptions" is very clunky, and hard to use, in new system.
  • LochNessieMonsters · 4 months ago
i agree, and also, how can you see which comment of yours people "liked' without going back and searching through every comment you post on the original website to see? And also where does my short bio show up for "fans" to see?
  • Trixi · 4 months ago
    Hi,
great to see, that you develope the comment system more and more. Thx for that, great work!!

But, actually - since yesterday - the gravatars of my commenters are not showing up on my site any more, but on the moderation site of Disqus they do.
Are you working on that or is something wrong with my settings?

    Thx for your help :)
  • Trixi · 4 months ago
    And another problem appeared:

It's not possible to hide the avatars. If I select this option in my settings, the avatars still show up on my site, even after forcing to load new with Crtl+F5.

I'm using a blogger.com Blog, would be nice, to get some help here...
  • MadCiapka · 4 months ago
Ehm, I checked the admin panel for comments, tried the "Narcissus" and the layout was broken in so many ways. Got my share of punishment when I was not able to switch it back, but now it's magically ok again with the old looks. It seems like not really ready for "prime time" - I recommend other users to wait a bit.
One question though - what about the localization? Is it going to be a proper one this time or it's still on the same level as before? Lot of strings are not (and cannot me) translated in "v2" :(
  • jual_rumah · 4 months ago
I need an explanation how DISQUS convey backlink to commenter blog. I want every blog I put comment link back to mine. Does it equally work as commentluv. Thank you.
  • Joseph Vizcarra · 4 months ago
i echo this concern. please, some explanation, and instruction, please..
  • Steve Cornelius · 4 months ago
To use Version 3 of DISQUS on our blogs, is there anything we need to do with the existing code?
  • Brett Hoerner · 4 months ago
Nope, just go into the control panel and change your theme to "Narcissus" to use all of the new features.
  • Pants McCracky · 4 months ago
Real-time commenting doesn't seem to be happening on my site (with Narcissus enabled). I'm using the "generic" code. Is there some additional code I need to make it work?
  • JC John Sese Cuneta (謝施洗) · 4 months ago
I noticed the same thing on my sites. When I check the source code, it is there, but it is hidden.

Is it possible that this is being rolled-out slowly?
  • Steve Cornelius · 4 months ago
At the risk of sounding completely illiterate, where is the control panel?
  • Brett Hoerner · 4 months ago

How do I add subscriptions now?
  • Daniel Ha · 4 months ago
Subscribe to a user's post or a comment thread?
  • JoeJoomla · 4 months ago
Sorry Daniel, I should have put my comment as a reply to yours. I'm still trying to get use to the Disqus changes.
  • JoeJoomla · 4 months ago
I finally figured it out. It wasn't intuitive. If you want to subscribe to 'loucypher', you need to go to http://disqus.com/loucypher/ and click subscribe there. You do this while you are logged in to your Disqus profile btw.
  • Daniel Ha · 4 months ago
If it wasn't intuitive, what was the first thing you tried to make this happen?
  • JoeJoomla · 4 months ago
I was looking for a way inside 'My Activity>Subscriptions' for a 'Subscribe To' function. An explanation on how to subscribe to others in the 'Subscriptions' area would have been nice.
  • Daniel Ha · 4 months ago
    Gotcha. Thanks.
  • David Chartier · 4 months ago
Ugh, why couldn't you have done this a month ago when I was deciding on a comments system for a bunch of new Tumblr blogs I'm about to launch? I love your comment system, but your old admin pages were mind-numbingly confusing. Now everything looks much more intuitive, and I love your social aggregation. Any idea how easy it is to swap out IntenseDebate code with your new code on Tumblr themes?
  • Alex · 4 months ago
Will the wordpress plugin be updated? Or is this not necessary?
  • Daniel Ha · 4 months ago
It will have minor updates, but an update is not necessary. Just log into your account.
  • Joseph Vizcarra · 4 months ago
so far the comment reblog function is not working in my wordpress blog.. :(
  • Dominicponsford · 4 months ago
All the comments from www.pressgazette.co.uk which are older than four days old have disappeared. This is a disaster as we have been using Disqus for a few years and appear to have lost thousands of comments.
I have emailed support but so far have heard nothing back.

    Please look into this Disqus!
  • Joseph Vizcarra · 4 months ago
    Yikes!

This is now officially getting creepy...
  • Daniel Ha · 4 months ago
To our credit, you emailed support about an hour ago, which was still after midnight. I responded to it, but take it easy -- we'll take care of you.

    Daniel -

I've investigated this now and it seems to be a problem with our CMS company Abacus rather than yourselves. Sorry for getting eggy.

I cant move the comment Box to the top on my blog http://www.clipotech.com/ - it always reverts back to bottom in the settings...
  • Daniel Ha · 4 months ago
That was a real bug earlier today, but the fix should have been fixed.

Let me know if you still have issues with that.
  • svartling · 4 months ago
    It works now. Thanks!
  • svartling · 4 months ago
    Cool! It works now! Thanks!
  • svartling · 4 months ago
One feature request: the possibilty to tweet a comment without it starting with @user . For example: sometime I want to write a comment on my own blog and tweet it so my twitter followers can see it. If I do that now the tweet starts with @svartling because that is the account I have connected Disqus too. You can look at Posterous comment system if you don't know what I mean. It works like that. I still want the auto @user comment tweeting as an option though. I hope you understand what I mean :)
  • chrisnadeau · 4 months ago
I currently use Disqus on my blog - http://cnadeau.evolvingsolutions.ca and I don't see the new version. Do I have to do something to make this happen? Or will it happen for me? Please say the latter :-)
  • Trixi · 4 months ago
    @chris
you have to go on your Disqus Site to: Comments >> Settings >> Customize >> and choose „Narcissus“ for the Layout structure. Then the new look will show up.

And I would love to get a feedback from the moderators/admins , why the Gravatars from my commenters, which are mostly „guests“ on my blog, don't show up any more. THX! ^_^
  • chrisnadeau · 4 months ago
Perfect and Thanks! I will let you know how it goes.
  • Trixi · 4 months ago
    You're welcome. ^_^

I hope, I’ll get an answer from the moderators for my questions as well. ˇ_ˇ
  • Daniel Ha · 4 months ago
There's a minor issue with Gravatars right now and we'll have it fixed asap.
  • Trixi · 4 months ago
Okay, so I know there's nothing wrong with the disqus integration on my blog or with my settings. Thx for your relply!
  • Naser · 4 months ago
Hey thanks a bunch, Trixi ! I was looking for this option for the last 3 days or so. Intitially I thought I had to repatch the template, but that didn't work. No matter what I did, the new design (Narcissus) wasn't showing up. I've been head on heals to find a solution. Once again, thanks a heap.

Also, on a different note, I think the Disqus authority should highlight this in one of their blog posts/announcements. I think a lot of people might miss this option tucked deep inside the customization menu...or has it been done already?
  • T-Steel · 4 months ago
One minor issue, when using the Cross Domain Receiver URL, when someone makes a new comment, it appears at the top of the thread and not the bottom (like I have set). When the page is reloaded, the comment appears at the bottom.

Any thoughts? By the way, I LOVE THE NEW LOOK!
  • T-Steel · 4 months ago
Oh is that just a feature of the real-time updating?
  • Daniel Ha · 4 months ago
    That should be fixed now.
  • T-Steel · 4 months ago
It's fixed. Daniel, you are the rest of the Disqus crew are DA BOMB! You've made a server administrator like me much happier. LOL!
  • Daniel Ha · 4 months ago
    Glad to hear it. :)
  • zizukabi · 4 months ago
Really really! It's Real Time Commenting System! Good Job!
  • writersblock · 4 months ago
One more thing, and this is where a "Submit Bug" button would really come in handy, I still have not been able to "Edit" a post, and have the edit show up. I understand others are not having this problem. Could it be the Mac OS (10.4.11) and the version of Safari (3.2.3) I'm using?

    Are others reporting this problem?

    Thanks
  • Andy C · 4 months ago
Great work on V3. Still digging around exploring the changes.

I am now using the Narcissus theme but don't see 'Real-Time' comments although it appears in the Theme Preview. I am using the embedded JS method and see others reporting the same issue. Is this a known issue ?

Also, I don't see any 'Reactions' displayed on any of my posts even though I have enabled all available sources (and have the necessary inbound links) - does this only apply to current posts onwards ?

What are the 'Other services' aggregated by 'Reactions' - simply any additional services supported by BackType and uberVU ? Does this include identi.ca ?

Keep up the great work !
  • Daniel Ha · 4 months ago
    Thanks Andy.
  • Andy C · 4 months ago
Thanks for the reply but any chance of answers to my questions :-)
  • Daniel Ha · 4 months ago
Odd, I know we've been making some changes around these two features in scaling up the speed. I'll see why it's not working for you.
  • vizmu · 4 months ago
I'm very very happy with this update. The ajax style reload is a life saver. We use disqus under movie trailers and without it every time a comment was made it would load up the trailer again.

I have to ask though is there any plans to allow subdomain cname access. eg rss.mydomain.com in a cname pointing to the mydomain.disqus.com/rss/output/ect/stuff ?

It would be very helpful for SEO and would not require anything on your part that I'm aware of.
  • Rahul Jauhari · 4 months ago
It works for me. And I like the Narcissus look.
I hope the service response time improves as well.
The interface is cleaner, simpler and superior.
The support buttons were a problem initially, but seem to be working now.
    Cheers
  • Daniel Ha · 4 months ago
    Support buttons?

And yes, Gravatars is still a problem. In some cases, they are showing on the dashboard, but not on the site.

I would love to use Disqus on my blog, but every time I try to upload I end up having the same problems. (1) Not all of my comments are transferred to the new system; (2) the load time for individual pages seems very slow; (3) New comments are not reflected in the number of comments link on the post page.

It would be great if someone could load and set up Disqus for me. Sorry about the whining.

Could we have the "Friends" list back? It was much easier to see one friends' aggregated comments in on place. Now we have to scroll through so screens to see that one persons' all comments. Please at least make it an option.
  • EricWatson · 4 months ago
    A couple things I noticed...

#1 when post new comment it arrives at top untill you refresh.

#2 I do all my emails, posts, etc on my iPhone. But with the new system, when I try and type, it painfully slows down my phone to the point of almost unusability. Typing is about twenty touches behind the whole time. My guess is because of the real time updating. Just letting you know.

The new system looks great though guys, good job, and thanks for all your hard work! To customize version 3's css, is the process the same, or different??? Thanks for your time!

Edit - if I pause real time updating that fixes my iPhone slowness. But, I keep trying to post a different comment, it initially puts it on top, but then when I refresh it disapears. It has a link in it, is that why? But it doesn't say needs moderator approval?

"...which better adapts to sites and is designed to provide a smoother user experience."

Ha! Couldn't be further from the truth! I could not understand why comments on my site had dropped off so dramatically, until reader's began sending me emails saying that they could no longer post comments.

HATE what you've done, especially to the Disqus user interface.

    Not a happy camper here.
  • vs_trader · 4 months ago
On blogger there is an option to subscribe to "all comments" on the posts which is a very useful feature if you are following the blog in readers like Goggle reader. However after moving to Disqus, this option is no longer available since the comments are now hosted on Disqus. Which RSS feed my blog users need to subscribe so that comment made on any post (via disqus) is visible and available to subscribers.

I am aware that it is possible to subscribe to comments on individual post level. I am looking for subscribing comments on "all posts".

That's exactly what I was just trying to figure out. It's quite convenient to monitor all comments from my feed reader with a "Subscribe To All" or something similar, so I know when to reply to someone, and so others can stay more connected to any and all discussions.

Is this plugin almost ready, or still in the early stages?

err...anyone knows why avatars are not showing up in the "Recent Comments" widget?

    * Update: It seems the Disqus widget generator is spewing invalid code :( For example, where it says " &hide _avatars=0 " it should actually be " &show_avatars=1 ". Both are supposed to serve the same purpose , but for some weird reason they aren't. Anyway, that's how I got rid of my problem.
