The Disqus Blog: Disqus: The Official Blog - Disqus Comments: Closing comments on Wordpress and some bug fixes

  • Rich Miller · 2 months ago
Thanks much for the close comments thing.

The login problem was noticeable by several readers. They would go away, come back and have to log in again. Is that what was fixed?
  • terry1 · 2 months ago
I also have that problem of having to log in every time I go back to the blog I frequently post on.
  • Daniel Ha · 2 months ago
This is likely a third party cookie issue. Check the FAQ here: http://disqus.com/faqs/?q=i-cannot-login-to-disqus

  • Giannii · 2 months ago
Try going to http://disqus.com/comments/moderate-threads and closing comments on those pages.
  • Ryan Lewis · 18 hours ago
Anyway you can send me the css and instructions for removing disqus for pages? Thanks
  • Ben Goheen · 2 months ago
Is there a way to hide the Disqus box on pages (not posts) when comments are closed? It is now showing up when it didn't before this update. Probably a simple fix, just can't seem to find the answer. See what I'm talking about on this page: http://www.mnhome.org/buy

And what about finally fixing the translations? Like doing it properly - all the visible strings, because current state show a lot of English there.

We're working on a revamp of our translated UI. Watch out for an update in the next week.

  • Giannii · 2 months ago
In our next release we plan to have an option for that. There is a way to do it with CSS, I'll email you the css code later today.
  • Captain Pickle · 1 month ago
Please send me this code as well, as this has not been fixed yet.

  • Matt · 2 months ago
Just wondering if I should run this upgrade ... I have hacked your plugin files because I wanted to output XHTML strict complaint code, and I was able to make it work.

If I run this upgrade, will your new version produce standards XHTML code? Or will I have to redo all my changes once again?
  • Daniel Ha · 2 months ago
Hi Matt, which changes did you make? We are happy to incorporate any valid fixes to our plugin.
  • trafficgeek · 2 months ago
Plugin still does not work with WP Robot. Disqus does not pickup the comments. Has anyone any success in getting this to work?
  • Giannii · 2 months ago
I pinged the developer that runs WP-Robot and we're working it out. =)

  • Kevin · 2 months ago
Great! I had originally tweaked the comments script to use the same checks that standard comment templates use. Now that you guys officially do it, I won't have to worry about refixing the plugin after each update!
  • Alex · 2 months ago
Like the close comments feature. Good stuff.

    HI, Great.

But we have this strange bug, users hwo login using their facebook account dont get correct namne or picture?

For example my name is displyed like: "facebook-502311036" ?

    regards // johannes
  • Daniel Ha · 2 months ago
This is due to a privacy setting with Facebook.
  • Chris Poteet · 2 months ago
I want to use it but the markup disqus puts out is horrific. Maybe it could be cleaned up? Having options for comment form layout would also be nice.
  • Giannii · 2 months ago
In our next plugin release we planning on fixing that but this should not affect your plugin usability.
  • Chris Poteet · 2 months ago
Do you intend to clean up the markup? That would make me go back to using it.
  • Giannii · 2 months ago
Yes, but as you may know everything still works fine.
  • randall g. leighton · 2 months ago
DISQUS makes my logo (Gravatar) look like crap. I am not pleased. BTW, I'm using Firefox.

    Thank you, Giannii.
    I'm waiting for your answer!!

What is up with Disqus. I am on the verge of dropping their use permanently.

On America blog is logs me out every time I go to a different message. Additionally, they lost my avatar and I had to reload it. And, my password now has to be manually entered every time, there is no provision for storing it.

And, in the past, you would see if your comments had replies and how it was scored. No more. Unless you go to a separate section to see replies, anyway.

This service is so much worse than it was justa couple of months ago.
  • Giannii · 2 months ago
Can you link me to a couple post that you're having this problem with? I want to try and reproduce the error. Regarding your avatar we had an unexpected server error and are working to resolve it. Sorry about that.

Regarding replies how would you like to see that section?
  • leliorisen · 2 months ago
    Hi,

I did not see a copy of my original post, but things have gotten pretty bad
with Disqus, since the last time I was using it actively (about a month
    ago).

First of all, almost veery time I want to post on America Blog, I have to
re-add my name and password. My computer stores it, but Disqus no longer
will aloow it apparently. Once I am signed in to AmericaBlog it is crazy to
have to log in multiple times, manually inputting both username and
    password.

Additionally, it is now slow and clunky and I have already had something get
double-posted (or so I thought). I deleted one of the posts, only to
discover that it was a phantom doubling and the other post got deleted as
    well.

Earlier this year, you could look back over your comments and see which ones
got positive responses (or likes), and, in that same field, you could see
the replies, and address them. Now you have to go to a 'replies' section.
Overall, this is going backwards, not forwards. I am less likely to use
AmericaBlog because things have gotten so bad with Disqus. I was going to
write John Aravosis and tell him, but I suspect he may already know there
    are issues.

    Best,
    Scott

Not sure if it has to do with this plugin update which I just ran in the last couple days, but my post published today has 3 comments on it. Only problem is, they're comments from another post that is months old. The new post doesn't actually have any of its own comments yet.

    Hi people,
I have a critical problem with DISQUS Comment System on my blog. In a few words, some weeks ago the plugin stopped to work suddenly and without any apparent reason. I already tried to uninstall it and after that to install it again but this procedure didn't work. Now I can't loggin to DISQUS Comment System from wp admin panel, moreover I receive the following error:

Disqus Comments has not yet been configured. (Click here to configure)

    Unexpected error.

I'm posting also an image http://img18.imageshack.us/i/disqus.jpg/
If I can't loggin it's not possible to manage the comments in my blog. Please, help me, I really don't know what I'm supposed to do.
    Thanks

Now i can login top my wp panel bot i don't show the comment form in my blog. I don't shot the avatar near the posts.,... why?!?? How i can solve this problem? Lool here for example --> http://www.crismonblog.org/news/opensuse-11.2-r...
  • J Fowler · 1 month ago
This still doesn't hide Disqus all together. On my pages especially I don't want any commenting info (like: 'comments closed') to appear under my content. There has to be a way to do this. Even after disabling comments in the WP dashboard for that page or post it still appears: http://tr.im/qyEG

I'm using the latest version of your Wordpress plugin. It may be interfering with my theme's code somehow but the Wordpress theme developer seems to think your plugin needs some serious adjustment to it's code. I'd love to use your product but I can't until these major issues get resolved. Please take a listen: http://themehybrid.com/support/topic/problems-w...

    Hi Disqus staff.

I think you have a great product but unless I can resolve a few major issues I have with your Wordpress plugin I can't use it for our site (which we are about to launch). I don't want any commenting area to show up on certain pages. In the Wordpress dashboard disabling comments makes the commenting area completely disappear - it doesn't say 'comments closed' - after the content it's just blank. This is what I want to maintain but Disqus is interfering and it still says 'comments closed' with the basic Disqus format for closed comments - I want this to be gone -to be blank after my content like it should be.

I use the Hybrid theme framework for our site and I suspect that this theme framework and your Wordpress plugin are not playing nice together. Also I'm hearing that your plugin is creating some 'sloppy' code:

"...I'd personally drop the plugin. It creates invalid XHTML all over your site, and I consider that a huge flaw in design." - http://themehybrid.com/support/topic/disqus-plu...
  • Daniel Ha · 1 month ago
    Hi J,

We are working on a new plugin that will fix some of the biggest issues. Please hang on tight.

    Cheers,
    Daniel
  • J Fowler · 1 month ago
    Thanks Daniel!!

I finally solved most of my issues with some tweaking of the disqus.php file. This is not an ideal solution but this is what I did for a temporary fix: http://themehybrid.com/support/topic/problems-w... (see my last comment on that thread). I look forward to the new WP plugin release for Disqus.

    shalom!
  • Tina Hunter · 1 month ago
I know that this is a hack, but for those people who are having problems removing the "Comments Closed" on the bottom of pages you can check out this forum post on Wordpress.org: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/320856?repli...

I think it may interfere with having comments show on any pages, but it is a work around solution.

    Cheers.
