I love Disqus. It works amazingly well on our website.
  • Gnome · 2 years ago
What I don't like is that it doesn't let people without an account to rate other comments. Or can they?
  • Terry Bain · 2 years ago
Wow. This looks just exactly like something I was looking for but didn't want to attempt to build myself because, well, I can't build anything. Cool beans.
  • Kevin · 2 years ago
Nice, rating within comments. What else can we rate now... ;)
  • Carlton Bale · 2 years ago
We can rate the ratings systems!

    Test comment by Stammy!

    Test reply by Daniel!

    Thanks for the write-up, Paul.

Seems pretty good. Not terribly keen on all the scroll bars but I guess they would disappear once you've settled it into a template. Would be interesting to see how it copes with reply after reply after reply.
  • Matt Przybylski · 2 years ago
testing how reply after reply looks.
  • John · 2 years ago
    Hey Stammy!
  • Zach Hale · 2 years ago
I would disqus in more detail, but it seems everything has already been disqused.
  • Chris Marshall · 2 years ago
Well it seems pretty cool, question really is does it add that much more and/or will it just be another 'flash in the pan'?

For sites that encourage a debate and support in the comments I reckon it could work, for sites that just collect the fanboy 'Yeah Awesome' comments it wont really add much will it :-) But to be honest what could!!!!
  • Omer Zach · 2 years ago
At the very least, it looks nicer than the one I saw here before.
  • Chuck Cheeze · 2 years ago
    Just testing-

If you are happy and you know it, clap your hands.
  • Ben · 2 years ago
    Definitely seems useful.
  • Arthus Era · 2 years ago
I'm not sure about how well I like the idea of letting someone else host my comments... out of my control. However, the advanced threading is a great plus. Your blog seems to be working great with this!
Might convert my blog with next redesign...
  • Daniel Ha · 2 years ago
We don't own your comments - you own them. You will be able to migrate your data out easily. We touch upon the comments to link it with all others in the network.

Interesting. I was rather hoping Disqus would completely supercede CoComment which I found woefully disappointing. This is an interesting but slightly different service and I still won't be able to track all my comments on all blogs via RSS (until every single blog in the world is Disqus-enabled).

I also use Spam Karma 2 (just so much better than Akismet) on my WordPress blog so am wary about returning to an inferior spam filtering solution.

However, despite those reservations, I've signed up to see for myself and will probably enable Disqus on my WordPress blog imminently to confuse and alienate my readers (both of them).
  • Daniel Ha · 2 years ago
Great, I'm all ears to hear what you'll think.

We do some fun stuff with anti-spam and have been successful so far. Let's see what you can throw at it. ;)
  • Wessley · 2 years ago
It looks good and doesn't affect page loading, very slashdot-esq if you know what I mean.
  • Paul · 2 years ago
And this is the simple JavaScript include version. I imagine the WordPress plugin version does this better.
  • stabani · 2 years ago
I am wondering as to how well disqus would be for spam filtering though. I'm sure they have good filtering but one of these days...
  • Daniel Ha · 2 years ago
I'd say it does a pretty good job, but I might be a bit bias.

We've got Akismet in the mix to lend a hand.

    Test 1,2 Test 1,2!
  • zerok · 2 years ago
Looks really nice. Although with OpenID support it would be even better ;-)
  • michele · 2 years ago
It definitely looks nice! Gotta try it out on my own blog to see if there a way to style them a bit. :)
  • Sean · 2 years ago
Future OpenID support is a must :)

Disqus looks like a great app for bloggers that get double-digit comments per post...but is there a simplified version for the rest of us?
  • zmatthai · 2 years ago
Giving it a test run myself.

    :)
  • Mirza · 2 years ago
I personally kind the js-kit comments to be better
  • Daniel Ha · 2 years ago
    Hi Mirza,

I'd love to get some of your elaborated thoughts on that one. We put out Tumblr integration yesterday if you'd like to take a look.

Like the article. Non committal works! Hey, don't blame you. We need to tread lightly with these companies who have a real service to offer. What are they up to. :)
  • Luke Hoersten · 2 years ago
Awesome app. This is something I've been waiting for and will help bring a lot of my friends into the blogging world. Sometimes I go to blogs and am shocked to see that my name is on the site, only to find out I commented last year. This should resolve that.

I'd like to be able to import all my previous comments before moving to this app though. Looks like they are still working on that feature.
