Ah yah, that's true. Some sees Disqus as being a Comment-and-Trackback solution, more against Spam.

If Disqus starts to implement Trackback, it will be the death of Web 1.0 service: Haloscan. In fact, Haloscan is being hurt already by "Outbrain" in the Blogpost-Rating space. Disqus will do the final blow with Trackback support.

Hint: Blogger/BlogSpot lack of Trackbacks ;)

Well "soon" is just "soon". That's not saying much about what priority it has compared to other suggestions, but rather a way of saying that they aren't neglecting that feature. After all, you can only make one first impression, and if you don't convey the point of upcoming trackback support, you might lose out on those checking out Disqus for the first, the only and incidentally the last time.

But I agree, of course. Disqus is beta, after all.

That's true. But allotting resources for its support is something I personally think is not worth it at this time of DISQUS' development and marketing. Later maybe when features and their plans are implemented, and DISQUS have more wider support and audience.

Right now, it's just too early. I'd rather see more features comment-wise than see trackback implemented and move some features for later. I mean, the weight. How many still cares about trackback ;) I do, but I can live without it, more DISQUS comment features first (frontend and backend).

But if it's implemented, I will use it definitely, especially for my Blogger/BlogSPot hosted blogs :p hehehehe.

Waah, do we really need trackbacks under DISQUS? Personally, I don't think so. Trackbacks today are pretty useless, thanks to endless trackback spams. This will only put more load to DISQUS, these spam-bots adds to the server load, imagine hosting thousands of trackbacks who are all getting attacked by spam-bots. Add to that the already thousands of comments (who are also getting attacked).

I really think trackbacks should be left to the blog platform itself. I still have my trackbacks on but all comments directed at DISQUS. (In fact, I don't have to import my comments since I can still show the old comments while the new comments are DISQUS already.) It's more of code positioning. We can leave trackbacks on (and old comments to show) while having all new comments powered by DISQUS.

I don't know, just my PoV, DISQUS must not shoulder trackbacks. Or at least delay it for at least 8 months, let's do some extensive, heavy load testing first, and lay down exactly why DISQUS should handle trackbacks.

Just my PoV. (And I don't see "DISQUS-sion" in trackbacks.)
