The Disqus Blog: Disqus Joins The Battle For Your Blog’s Comments

  • petenixey · 2 years ago
I love this. More functionality for less work and really well executed. Being able to add a full discussion into threads without any local backend required is a huge win for me as a developer. I'd love to see OpenID login to this but that aside, it's spot on

    Good work Disqus!
  • Rob Walters · 2 years ago
Sure, but it is nice to be able to push off things like this for a 3rd party to maintain so that you can focus on just Blogging.
  • Dave · 2 years ago
Made for all those political sites/ The amount of comments that some political sites receive is crazy. And slashdot thats even worse. I can see some sites using systems like this.
  • mattmaroon · 2 years ago
    How about this one?
  • Evan · 2 years ago
    This is pretty cool.
  • immad · 2 years ago
I am loving this. I am a lot more likely to comment if a lot more blogs use this. Currently its so hard to keep track of comments I make
  • Dhrumil · 2 years ago
After playing with every freaking option, including trying to create our own comments section, I arrived at Disqus. I can't say how much I love it.
  • mattmaroon · 2 years ago
I've been using this for a couple months on my blog. It's pretty awesome, even at the small level of commenting I have. Obviously I'm rather partial, since I was in YC too, but being an avid blogger, this is probably my favorite of the other startups from it. It's definitely the one I'll use the most.

Testing, testing! Great write up, Nick.

Hi Marshall. I'm attempting to break this one too. ;)
  • neuraxon77 · 2 years ago
Yeegads! Has anyone looked at the page source? An entry for every comment and search engine unfriendly... *runs and hides*
  • sputnick · 2 years ago
Whaddaya know... Something useful comes out of Y Combinator.
  • xavierv · 2 years ago
Now that's not right... Politically speaking
  • Google · 2 years ago
The good thing about this is that it allows people to include little icons on the comments.

This gives it a personal touch. MyBloglog does the same thing - but you have to go to a different page
  • morochos · 2 years ago
I think Disquis tools is very useful for popular blogs, thanks for the tips.
  • Gene · 2 years ago
This seems pretty cool to me. I like the way you can sort the comments based on different things so you can see recent ones or the highly voted ones.
  • Mark Zuckerberg · 2 years ago
I can't wait to add this to Facebook.
  • Tom · 2 years ago
LOL. not unles I do it first!
  • Ben Werdmuller · 2 years ago
Why would I add this to my own blog? I like the idea of hosted discussion, but anyone who runs a blog will be savvy enough to also be able to install a forum. Where hosted services like this really become useful is for the less technical users of places like Wordpress.com.
  • John · 2 years ago
It does a lot more than a forum. One would be hard pressed to implement all the cool stuff. And the idea of a global reputation and a central place to look up ones comments wouldn't work at all without a hosted solution
  • Ed · 2 years ago
I agree, very good write-up. If you stumble across similar services, be sure to cover them!
  • atanu · 2 years ago
calling wordpress users less technical is rather ridiculous. i've always found it to be extremely functional. as well as user friendly at all levels, not just in comparison with other blogging software, but even with several cms ones. thats a greatly designed software, and using it doesn't cheapen its user base.
  • Ben Werdmuller · 2 years ago
WordPress is awesome. I was talking about Wordpress.com, which is also awesome, but doesn't require any sysadmin skills.
  • chimaera · 2 years ago
I don't hugely see the point in having this instead of normal commenting systems. Sure it has a few gimmicks but I don't see it taking off.
  • Mike · 2 years ago
Oh wow. This seems like a very powerful new tool. Thanks for the write-up!
  • Mark · 2 years ago
Cool, but when will you be able to use it with tumblr.com?
  • Daniel Ha · 2 years ago
It's already in use on some Tumblr blogs, including my own: http://obscurelyfamous.com (personal plug!)

We love tumblr so keep an eye out for some interesting news about Disqus+Tumblr.
  • john · 2 years ago
interesting, but not interesting enough to bother adding it to my own blog.
  • Michael Christoff · 2 years ago
    i like it.

I have been using Intense Debate for a while on my blog. My assessment is that they are all better then what comes with the various platforms.
  • Brian Wilson · 2 years ago
Good stuff. Definitely worth considering. Thanks, Nick.

Disqus takes comments to the next level. Nice and simple, I like it!
  • sitkarev · 2 years ago
interesting thing. added to my blog to see how people like it
  • mliubinskas · 2 years ago
The commenting component is pretty good. Well done. I'm guessing more is coming soon.
  • Yoav Pridor · 2 years ago
Why is the site not responding? Did TC make them crash?
  • Daniel Ha · 2 years ago
    Hi Yoav,

Nope, we're still cruising along. There's a minor server hiccup that's being
    resolved right now. Thanks!
  • Jsiegel1483 · 2 years ago
seems like a decent solution for blogs which have a large form factor but not for small form comments when real estate is constrained

A very YouTube-style comment system. But much more organised. Pretty good!

  • Fûz · 1 year ago
how about battling for comments for pre-existing blogs that are weary of using enetation?

I need CAIF import and am desperate to give enetation the heave-ho.

What will disqus do for me?
  • dan anon · 1 year ago
i am testing this disqus for fun
  • paulmwatson · 2 years ago
Boing boing, Houston, we have a comment. Not bad.

Techcrunch design is already suffering from feature and ad overload. It's confusing for people who don't use feeds. Surely you guys can even ask volunteers to re-do your design.
