It looks like the code in question is this snippet in /wp-content/themes/carrington-blog/content/content-default.php:
<?php comments_popup_link(__('No comments', 'carrington'), __('1 comment', 'carrington'), __('% comments', 'carrington')); ?>

I just setup a new blog, so it should be easy to replicate with a quick default install of WP and the theme.

I ended up not using Disqus for the site because of this and am back to the regular wordpress commenting system.
