Sorry if my post sounded terse; my post was done from my phone and brevity comes off badly many times. I promise it was friendly. :)

I agree that this needs to be indicated in our help documentation because the issue comes up often. I would very much like this to be resolved, but it's been difficult for us to get in contact with the people who can fix this. I will continue seeing if we can address it.

Again, this isn't something we are ignoring -- it's just something we can't immediately solve ourselves without the help of Blogger.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly but I'm slightly surprised with your response as it's rather terse. The people in this forum have bothere to look up and ask if there's something we can do about this and you're just saying 'no'. I don't believe that 'no' is any sort of compromise or way forward to getting a problem like this solved.

Perhaps you can clarify, whether or not you have opened dialogue with them and what, if anything happened? Is there anything we can do as a community? Are there workarounds?

You're trying to give us tools to build communities around our blogs. It seems to me this could be a good opportunity to walk the talk and for us to collectively try and find a way through this.

This is an issue with Blogger and external blog editors. They do not respect the comment settings.

Unfortunately there is little we at Disqus can do about this.

Yup, I'm having the same problem. Just as I, and my readers, were getting in to the disqus thing, I switched to Live Writer (which is brilliant btw!) and it's reverted. It's a shame because I like the Disqus concept and I'd like to support it if I can. Please keep us posted as to any work arounds with this.

Yeah, appears to be Blogger because all of the external editors I have tested do this.

We've looked at this. We can't change how external editors post to
Blogger. I'm investigating an alternative solution.

Keep in mind, this isn't just Live Writer that has this problem. It appears to be all external editors.

Right. I believe Windows Live Writer does not respect this setting
when it makes the post.

Under Settings > Comments, you do need to set "New posts do not have
comments"

Thanks Daniel. When you say the comments need to be closed, are you referring to the option in Blogger to hide comments? Is there a way to actually get the external editor to play nice and use Disqus?

We discovered that using an external blogging tool does not respect
the options set in Blogger. The comments need to be closed for Disqus
to take effect.
